Resume

It has been interesting talking about resumes this week, because I didn’t realize how much of a difference knowing a few strategies can really make for potential employment. For example, I learned that it is important to balance job objectives so that the company knows what type of position you desire without making the objective too detailed. Although when you describe your previous work experience, it is very important to be exact in what responsibilities you have held. I also never thought about the dangers before of putting personal information such as your phone number and address on an online resume. This explains that knowing the differnces between paper and online resumes can be beneficial. It is also very helpful to start thinking about potential interview questions to be prepared for any kind of topics that may be brought up during an interview. All of this information has made me excited about starting to work on my resume!

In ten years...

In ten years I hope to be living wherever I can find a job that I love, but I guess personally I would like to go back to Charleston to be near my family. I will hopefully be an Occupational Therapist working with little kids either at a hospital, a clinic, or doing some kind of outpatient therapy. After I have my career figured out and a stable job, I will eventually get married and want to have two or three kids. I just hope to live a comfortable lifestyle, somehow helping kids that need mental, emotional or some kind of stability along those lines in their lives.

Web 2.0

I believe the title could mean one of two different things. First of all, it may mean "The Machine is Us," meaning that we are the ones who use the internet and all of the capabilities such as research and web browsing benefit us as users. Also, it could mean "The Machine is Using Us," or the internet is taking over our lives, and we are just trying to stay up to date with the advanced technology brought to us by the internet to prosper in our competitive society. Web 2.0 helps people who are wanting to enter the workforce because it links us all together so that both employers and future employees can connect. Web 2.0 provides a common ground for those who know how to use the web to find better job opportunities or just in general to perform their jobs more effectively if already employed.
The message that we will have to rethink everything is saying that we rely so much on the web to give us information and keep us connected with others that we need to focus on other aspects of life. We should communicate with our family and friends face-to-face and not just rely on websites such as facebook.com or myspace.com. We should also rethink our reliance on research websites and learning through search engines to go out into society and explore things for ourselves or read a book, the way people used to gain knowledge.
